5 Tips to caring for your skin

I have always experienced skin problems, particularly blemishes on my face. It never fails that when a special day comes around such as my wedding or another big event, I will get a blemish in the most obvious of places. While it is inconvenient, I am to the point now that I expect to have to deal with a blemish here and there and so I plan accordingly, In addition to planning for how to cover the blemish, I also spend a great deal of time in trying to prevent my skin from having problems. This article will highlight some of the tips that I find most helpful when caring for my skin.
  1. Clean your face daily. At a minimum, I clean my face in the morning but I also try to do so before bed. I use a Clarisonic Mia 2 and just love it. I stopped using it for awhile as I didn’t think that it made much of a difference in my skin but then I noticed the difference of how my skin looked in pictures. I couldn’t believe the difference. My pores were smaller and my skin looked younger and rejuvenated while using the Clarisonic brush. Now I use the brush religiously. Cleaning my face daily with the brush keeps the redness down and helps to prevent swollen cheeks and eyes in the morning after a long night of sleep.
  2. Use cleanser that is gentle. No matter what you hear about cleansers and face care products, be sure to use something that is gentle on your skin. Using a harsh cleanser may kill any bacteria that is on your skin and can help to prevent blemishes but it may end up damaging your skin over time which could cause premature aging. I prefer to use Cerave products as they clean my skin well and prevent breakouts.
  3. Apply moisturizer as needed. I have oily skin so I do not apply moisturizer as often as someone who has dry skin. My skin is naturally lubricated with oil so adding additional moisturizer can make my skin shine bright and not like a diamond, let me tell you!
  4. Use Aquaphor for dry skin or problem areas. When my lips are chapped after being out in the cold all day at a football game, I use aquaphor instead of chapstick to help my lips repair. Aquaphor is so helpful and I use it on so many things from dry and cracked heels to elbows to lips. I also used Aquaphor to help my tattoo heal.
  5. Drink lots of water. I cannot stress this enough. Drinking enough water will not only help you stay hydrated and more alert, but it will also help your skin. Drinking water helps to flush out toxins in your body and will refresh your skin.

Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming. The best thing to do is to find products that work for you, create a routine, and stick to it. Over the course of a few weeks you will begin to notice a difference in your skin tone and in your ability to prevent blemishes.
