There are few things I love more than the cool, crisp air that graces us with its presence around during the fall and winter seasons each year…

However, this time of year also seems to bring about one pest – the common cold.

From the sneezing to the runny eyes to the headaches, and, of course, you can’t forget the body aches. The common cold is quite possibly one of the most annoying things in life – you can’t completely avoid it but it just so happens to be one of those illnesses that just has to run its course for you to get better.

Let’s just take a look at a few statistics on the common cold:

In the United States alone, each year there are more than 1 billion colds and upper respiratory tract infections. Yes, that’s right, 1 billion!

And, on top of that astonishing number, 5 to 25 percent of Americans will get the flu.

Of course, once you have the common cold or something of the like, you can take over-the-counter cold medicine, soak in a hot bath, drink warm tea, and blow your nose as often as you can handle. But, there are other things you could be doing to help lessen your chances of getting the common cold in the first place.

Working constantly to build up your immune system is a great way to help avoid the common cold once this time of year comes around. By helping build your immune system, you are preparing your body to fight off the common cold intruders as soon as they enter your body.
