4 Reasons that couples are likely to divorce

It is no secret that relationships are hard and that they take a great deal of work. It is true that those couples who are willing to communicate with one another about their differences and are committed to working through the hard times together will likely be able to stay together for the rest of time. However, this is very hard to do and a majority of couples end up divorcing because of failures in their marriage that are unable to be fixed. This article will highlight some of the most common reasons as to why couples are likely to divorce if they do not find help.

  1. Money and debt issues. Money and debt issues can cause a great deal of stress on a couple as they try to navigate through them. It can be a huge challenge to figure out how to make ends meet when both are trying so hard to make money for the family. One of the best ways to manage money is to act as if you are a team and have team meetings. Team meetings where you discuss the financial status of the family and make goals together that will help you accomplish debt reduction will make your relationship stronger. A relationship fails when one member of the couple chooses to ignore relationship goals and spends money frivolously without speaking to their partner first.

  1. Differences in raising children. Every person has a different idea of how to raise their children based on how they were once raised by their parents. It is not uncommon for a couple to fall in love, marry, have children and then find out that they have nothing in common and that they do not agree on how to raise children. This can cause great strain on a relationship and cause the parents to grow apart. Many couples will try to stay together for the sake of the children, only to live a life of unhappiness that will be obvious to their children. It is healthy for a child to see their parents in a happy and loving relationship over one that is full of resentment and anger. Therefore, many choose to divorce as they cannot agree on how to raise their children.

  1. Religion. Relationships have been known to fail due to religious differences. Even if one chooses to convert to their partner’s religion, there are others who can cause a great deal of drama in the relationship when it comes to religion. Not all couples are affected by what family members think and say, but some are. If you let it, others from your family will be able to put a wedge between you and your partner because they believe you should practice a certain religion.

Substance abuse. It is not uncommon for a relationship to unravel due to substance abuse. Whether it is one person or both people in the relationship who have a problem with substance abuse, there is no room in a relationship for it. If you are in a relationship in which substances are consistently present, you may consider attending couples substance abuse treatment so that you can work through the problems together. This type of treatment will help you stay together as well as understand one another.
