5 Tips to brightening your smile

Your smile has a huge impact on your overall image. According to the survey conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 99.7 percent of responders claimed a nice smile is one of the most important parts of a person's appearance. It is not that hard to believe that smiling is the best way to make the first impression. If you are looking for convenient ways to brighten your smile, here are the most effective ways to do so.

  1. Brush your teeth with baking soda. To make your own teeth whitening paste, mix two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to a tablespoon of baking soda. Hydrogen peroxide is safe and is actually found in many over-the-counter tooth whitening products. On the other hand, baking soda consists chemical compound that removes the stains from your teeth. If you don't feel like using hydrogen peroxide, you can simply mix one part of baking soda to two parts water. Brush the paste on your teeth once a week.

  1. Try coconut oil pulling. This trick has been around for centuries and has remained effective up to these days. Do it by swishing two teaspoons of extra virgin coconut oil in your mouth for up to 20 minutes first thing in the morning. This is usually done on empty stomach. Coconut oil does not just whiten your teeth. It can also improve your breath and prevent cavities.

  1. Eat a healthy diet. Poor diet is one of the reasons why the teeth turn yellow. Avoid processed foods as well as foods that have high acid. Leafy greens, apples, and carrots are some of the best foods for your teeth.

  1. Use apple cider vinegar as a mouthwash. Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid that can kill bacteria. Combine a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water. If you have stubborn stains, you can rub the vinegar directly on the teeth. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can avoid bacterial infections on your mouth. However, it is important to use apple cider vinegar in moderation because too much of it can soften your teeth.

  1. Get a teeth whitening procedure. Most of the time, OTC products, and natural remedies are not enough to get the bright smile you deserve. Baking soda and oil pulling may not remove deeper and older stains. Many OTC teeth whiteners can even irritate your gums. The stains from coffee and tea drinking are quite hard to remove. When all else fails, it is time to get help from a dentist for a peroxide-free whitening treatment. Cosmetic teeth whitening is not as expensive as it looks like. It will cost you around $140-$200, complete with consultation and aftercare advice.

A nice smile is not just important for aesthetic purposes. It also increases your self-confidence and conveys that you are healthy. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that stains can return if you smoke a cigarette or drink caffeine drinks often. Brush your teeth religiously and avoid processed foods, caffeine, and cigarettes as much as possible.
