3 Tips to Being Safe While Attending a Party

When heading out to a social gathering, it’s always important to plan ahead so you can have a safe and enjoyable evening. Nobody wants to wake up regretting the night they had or worse yet find themselves in a dangerous situation after a night of partying, especially if there is drinking involved. If you’re not aware of your limits or prepare well enough before attending a party, you might end up having to face some consequences.

But don’t worry, there are a lot of different ways to stay safe such as being surrounded with groups you trust, or being self-aware at all times. If you do decide to drink, follow the tips below for staying safe at parties.

  1. Guard your beverages.

It’s always best practice to order your own drinks and be aware of the source. This is because an unattended drink may have a substance dropped into it without your knowledge. In extreme cases, it could be a substance called Rophynol, also known as roofie, which is a small odorless and tasteless white pill that dissolves quickly in drinks. It is commonly known as the “date rape” drug as it causes symptoms, including sleepiness, relaxation, intoxication, dizziness, disorientation, and difficulty with motor functions and speech.

Whether you’re a man or a woman, don’t risk it. Keep your drink in hand, never accept a drink from a stranger, and get a new one if you lose sight of yours.

  1. Stay hydrated.

If you hate having hangovers, then drink plenty of water throughout the night. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it slowly dehydrates you throughout the night, which can contribute to nausea, dizziness, and a terrible hangover the next morning. You can space out your drinks so you don’t get intoxicated faster. A simple strategy is to alternate between drinking an alcoholic beverage and hydrating with a glass of water. Make sure to also hydrate before heading out to the party. It’s better to stay safe and hydrated than waking up with a terrible hangover the next day!

  1. Bring a breathalyzer to check alcohol consumption.

If you brought your car to the party, it’s advisable not to drink at all. However, if you do decide to drink a glass of beer or two, it helps to keep track of your alcohol levels before even going behind the wheel. A practical tip is to bring a personal breathalyzer to your next party. A breathalyzer is a machine that estimates a driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC) level by determining the amount of alcohol in his or her lungs. It’s a great tool for the public to monitor their blood alcohol concentration (BAC), against the legal state limit. A quick puff into the mouthpiece of this device and you’ll know in an instant whether it’s unsafe for you to get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

This device is not only useful for frequent drinkers, but also for non-drinkers who probably like hosting parties or being around those who drink. A personal breathalyzer is a handy tool which you can use to test your friends and family at the end of the night, and see who is safe to drive or who needs to call an Uber.

While these tips can help you prevent from being too intoxicated, hungover, and getting caught drinking under the influence, there are a lot of different ways to stay safe at parties. Of course, there are many more consequences if drinking is involved, but it is up to our responsibility to know our limits. As long as you have a good plan and know exactly how you’ll get home safe, you can still enjoy the evening as much as you can. So go out, party, and drink responsibly!
