What to Pack for a Professional Conference

This weekend I am heading to a professional conference for my day job. I love attending this particular conference because it allows me to meet up with old colleagues and classmates. I also love the opportunity to learn about new trends in higher education and also network with others who do the same type of work that I do.

In preparing for this conference, I typically go to the mall and shop until I drop. This year, we are concentrating our extra funds on paying off my school loan and other credit card debt that I have so  I will be heading to my closets to shop for clothes.

I plan to pack staples; classic pieces that do not go out of style. I want to look professional yet feel comfortable. A classic black dress looks great alone, with some jewels, or a scarf. I could also wear a blazer or cardigan over this black dress and accessorize with a necklace, bracelets, and black heels for a sophisticated look.

I plan to pack my gym clothes. I love getting away for a couple of nights and having the gym in close proximity to where I am staying. Since I am going to a warmer climate, I am hoping that I will get to run a day or two outside also.

I plan to pack shoes. Shoes. and more shoes. I just can't help it.

It is also important to pack a carry all bag or tote of some kind that is big enough to carry your essentials but does not look like a duffel bag.

Often times I forget one very important thing. Business cards. Every year I promise that I will not forget business cards and every year I end up breaking that promise. This year, I have them already stashed in my purse.

What do you do to get ready for a big work event?
