Often times during the holiday season, I find that I want to look my best because I am visiting with family and friends that I have most likely not seen all year. I like to plan outfits so that I am not scrambling around at the last second looking for a belt or a pair of earrings so it should be no surprise to you that I have begun to scour pinterest and polyvore for outfit inspiration and am sharing a few looks with you today. I thought that these looks would be appropriate for the casual holiday festivities that we have planned. We are not black tie affair type of people and we tend to enjoy hanging out at a friend's house to watch the ball drop.
To begin looking for outfits to wear this holiday season, I went shopping in my closet. Whenever I go shopping in my closet, I find things that I forgot I had or I envision new ways to wear things. This past weekend, when I began to "shop" in my own closet I quickly became overwhelmed.
My closet is jam packed with neutral colors, black, white, browns, and lots of jeans. I tend to like to stick to classic black and white with a splash of red (in the form of a sweater) for the holidays but this year I am going to try to step outside of my comfort zone and add some color.
This year, I am in the mood to wear skirts with tights. In my scouring of pinterest, I am finding many outfits that are not too dressy and not too casual. This outfit inspires me. I just love the lace skirt, sweater, and classy black tights.
If I am not wearing black and white, I am often wearing beige and neutral colors. I love brown boots, brown tights, and a colorful dress together. This look does not have the spunk or excitement that I am going for this holiday season but I still like these pieces together.
Shopping in my closet did not turn out to be fruitful as I had hoped. I have a vision. My vision is very clear. I can picture the outfit that I want to wear on New Year's, however I have not been able to find all the missing pieces just yet.
I have decided that I am still going to stick with black staple pieces from my wardrobe but to fulfill the color void, I am looking for fun and colorful opaque tights in red. I found these candy apple red tights by Hue and instantly became smitten with the bright color. Hue offers 16 colors and they are currently on sale! I love a sale and 2 pairs of colorful tights for $16.50 is wallet friendly.
For more casual events, I am hoping to find some baggy sweaters or tunics that I can pair with comfortable leggings and boots. Again, I tend to be partial to classic black leggings paired with either brown or black boots but for the holidays, I am feeling inspired to wear colors and make a statement. My husband and I are going out with some friends for New Year's Eve and I want to wear something fun and trendy, but at the same time comfortable. I find that wearing leggings makes me feel fashionable while being comfortable because the material is stretchy!
I may even decide to wear leggings to Christmas Eve dinner with family because stretchy material is perfect for large holiday dinners! The material is forgiving and you won't make you feel like you are popping out of your clothes after feasting on grandma's ham and mashed potatoes!

Hue not only has gorgeous, rich, bright and colorful tights, but they also offer leggings in a variety of unique materials. I may choose to go super casual and wear black or gray corduroy leggings.

Or---depending how I feel on New Year's Eve, I may go with velvet leggings for a truly unique and dressier look. One thing is for sure. I have many options if I do choose to stick with classic black.
