How I Got Started Running

I began running in January when I started my weight loss journey. I started out with the Couch to 5K app while also using the Nike+ app. I found that they were really helpful in getting started. I liked the couching that the apps provided because I had no idea what I was doing. I was lacking confidence in my ability to run.

I took a break from running in the spring and attended various workout classes at my local gym. I enjoy the structure of classes and felt really good about my results.

Over the summer I wanted to run but did not want to choke on the humidity. I also found it challenging to find time to go to the gym. I had time to go after work but by that time in the day I just wanted to go home to my family. I am not a morning person so working out in the morning was a big challenge for me because I would rather sleep.

One day in late August I decided that I needed to get on a work out schedule and decided to try running again. I am so happy that I picked it back up.
Since August I have grown leaps and bounds in my running. I have accomplished small running goals and find myself creating new goals. I want to read and learn about running. I want to run all the time.

The biggest challenge for me is taking rest days. If I feel like my body is sore, I still really want to run and then I will think about it all day long even when I am giving my body a rest. I think my fear is that if I don't run every day I won't pick it back up the next day. I am learning to let go of the pressure I put on myself and just enjoy the runs for what they are.

Me time!

Do you run?

I used to run a lot, but due to lower back issues from my pregnancy I haven't been able to get back into it. Instead I power walk for 1- 1h30 with my Little Guy in the stroller - sometimes I jog for a minute or two every ten minutes, but I keep it to that until my back gets stronger, through continue core exercise and therapy. Congrats on picking it up and enjoying it as you do!!
