Love Languages

How do you prefer to be loved? How do you love others? You may have an idea already for how you love others and how you want to be loved but you can take this quick quiz to learn what your love language is.

There are 5 Love Languages:

Loving through Acts of Service
Loving through Affirmation
Loving through Quality Time
Loving through Physical Touch
Loving through Gifts

A colleague of mine recommended The 5 Love Languages book to me recently and I am finding it rather intriguing. I have learned so much about myself just by spending a few moments taking the Love Languages quiz. By taking the quiz and reading a little bit of the book from the excerpts I found online, I was able to get a good idea of how D prefers to be loved. Because of what I know now,  cleaning the bathrooms after a busy work week doesn't seem so bad because I know that he feels loved and appreciated through acts of service. Before knowing that, I would get resentful and upset with him. I would wonder why he wasn't cleaning the bathrooms! I have learned that I too feel loved and appreciated through acts of service. That explains why I am on cloud 9 the nights he makes dinner for me and it is ready and waiting when I get home from work.

I only took the quiz and read a little bit but I am so excited for my book to arrive.
I can't wait to learn and reflect on me in order to continue to build my relationship with D.
How have you worked on your relationship lately?

I literally bought this book a couple of months ago and I haven't had the chance to start it yet. I can't wait to read it!

I read this book last year, and I think it can be a great way to understand the way you feel loved & the way he feels loved. I wish I could get my fiance' to read it...my top 2 are gifts & words of affirmation, and his is physical touch. I always feel loved by him, but I think sometimes he forgets that we love differently. ;)

My dear friend Becky absolutely adores this book, and she's told me so much about it that I almost feel like I've read it!

I've never read the book, but the hubs and I have taken a quiz to see what ours our... as can be expected, ours are totally different! But it's so helpful to know that and to keep that in mind when we are trying to show love to each other... it's easy to love someone the way you want to be loved, but it takes thought and effort to love them in a way that's not as obvious to you.

This book changed our marriage - in a great way. We have learned so much about each other through this book. We were so confused as to why neither of us felt TRULY loved by the other... even though we were each kind to each other, respectful, etc... But the problem is that Damien loved me how he wanted to be loved and vice versa. It's VERY hard for us because his love language is the absolute last one on my list when I took the quiz and the same with mine for him... But we work on it and it really helps.

My mom (who is also a psychologist) gave me this book a while back. It's been on my bedside table trying to get my attention. Thank you for giving me the motivation and inspiration to give it a go!
