...And you do what? {creating my elevator speech}

Creative Estates was great.
I feel so privileged to have met so many great bloggers and handmade shop owners while reflecting on my online presence.
I am quite shy in person.
After a bit, I warm up but I am really shy at first.
Allison (A Glimpse Inside), ME, Lauren (the Elephant's Trunk)
So-the first night was great!
Allison and I of A Glimpse Inside met at the airport and took the shuttle to the hotel together.
We checked into our hotel room and then went to the "Cupcakes and Cocktails" social that was held next door at a delicious Mexican restaurant.

When we walked in, we immediately ran into Lauren of the Elephant's Trunk and Chrissy of Hoot Designs.

After hanging out for awhile I began to mingle with other bloggers and met so many that I had tweeted with online.

ME: Hi! I'm Gina of Hiya Luv.

Blogger: Hi Gina! I am.... What do you do?

Me: {awkward pause} What do I do? Do you mean professionally?

Blogger: Blank stare.

Me: I'm confused. Do you mean my blog? Or professionally?
I blog, I have a handmade shop, and I work professionally as well.

Let's just say my elevator speech was one big hot mess.
I had not even thought about what I was going to say when I met others.
I am so used to saying, "Hi, I'm Gina! Nice to meet you."

I just thought I would introduce myself as usual.
I wish I would have been more prepared so I wouldn't have been so off-gaurd at the first few people I met.

After awhile, I was prepared.
ME: Hi! I am Gina. I write a blog called Hiya Luv and I also have a handmade shop called Hiya Luv Handmade. I sell girly accessories such as bags. I also work professionally at a university in Philly. (read more here)

You sweet thang you!

I don't have an elevator speech. I have no idea what I would say. I'm all about winging it. ::snort::

I used to have one back when I worked full time outside my home, but now it's a little trickier. I usually change what I say based on who I'm talking to, because some people are kind of judgemental and assume that because I don't work at an office that I just sit at home and can't find a "real" job.

... I guess I should work on one of these then?

Oooo good question. I usually tell people I homeschool my kids, and it could go either way. . .the look of oh you're one of 'those' or the automatic 'how do you give them socialization?' and on occasion people will think it's cool.

Looks like you ladies had a good time. Was it worth it to go?

you are so silly.
Mine is "Hi, I am Lindsay. I paint."
and we all know you are NOT shy :)

so good you were able to go to CE. it looks like everyone who went had a blast! I hope to make it next year. i don't have an elevator speech so i guess i should probably get to working on one.

Love the awkward-cuteness of your intro! I would be the same way!

I don't have an elevator speech, not even for my "real" job. No one has any idea what Academic Affairs is, even when I say "I help create academic policy for a graduate school" they don't really understand. I generally say I work at a grad school and if they REALLY want more, they probe and I dish.

I don't think I've ever been asked in any other context! Anyone who might be interested in the other stuff already know what I do w/my Etsy shop.

You and I have gotta meet one day.

Ha, I love this! I usually skip my day job and my wedding blog (that often encourages these bizarre looks on peoples' faces...) and tell them I'm an opera singer! They never have any idea what to say then!

Wow, I would have been off guard too! I totally would have said something about being a special ed teacher. Glad you got your speech down after a while though :)

Haha, I doubt you were a "hot mess," but I know what it's like to feel unprepared :) I think I would say something similar!

I'm very shy too! Total introvert so I know exactly how you feel. but I'm the one that thinks of a million things to have prepared and forget what it was "awkward silence". I'm always saying I'm not a snob I just to socialize much but the friends I do have I'm very loyal and outgoing with them just takes me a bit to open up.

I'm so jealous of this creative estates-ness. I'm super shy and awkward in person, too. Just ask Daniel. ;)

Your first "hot mess" response reminded me totally of the bridal show I did. I would be standing at my booth, someone would walk up and after the initial hello they would ask about my art. The first few times I think I just awkwardly looked at it as if the pictures would explain themselves. It never even occurred to me to prepare something!

I love your new elevator speech. I think it sums up exactly what you do and still opens up conversation with it too.

Great job!
