barefoot and driven to succeed.

motivation. drive. success.
These three characteristics stand out when i think about women in the blogging community. many women are stay at home mothers. They take care of their children, homeschool, clean, cook, do laundry, grocery shopping, and all of the domestic duties that fall under the responsibilities of the woman of the house. They may or may not have a handmade shop and they blog. Oh, and I didn't mention that this woman may have to take her children to and from extra-curricular activities and also find time to spend with her other half.
Some bloggers may work full-time and work long hours, may or may not have a family, get home from work and have to take care of all of the domestic duties that did not get done while they were away at work, make dinner, blog, work on their handmade shop and/or take care of children or go to school.

My point is that regardless of what our background is-the women in the blogging community are driven. We are motivated. And we are successful at whatever we choose. We can achieve so much; whatever we put our minds to.

I met Jessica of Barefoot by the Sea and the Paper Stork several months ago and immediately fell in love with her blog.

She is hilarious and I love hearing her stories about her girls and the fun that they encounter on a regular basis. Jessica writes with humor and she always gives me the giggles. I think of Jessica as somebody who is motivated. driven. successful. She has a family, a blog, and an Etsy shop called the Paper Stork.

She is one busy mama however she does it all with love, laughter, and a smile on her face.

I asked Jessica a few questions about motivation. drive. success:

1. What drives you in your everyday work with family/friends/work/paper stork?
It's very satisfing to create one of a kind art that will be displayed in the sweetest room of the house, the nursery or a child's room.  I love creating a unique piece of art that a child will look at while drifting off to sleep.

2. What motivates you to succeed?
My family and my need to contribute to our lives.  I want to show my girls that their mama is creative, busy and successful.  I may not leave the house every morning and have a "normal office job" but I'm certainly at the office...at all hours of the day!
why hello, yellow birdie.
3. How do you define success in your work/family/relationships/paper stork?
I define success in various ways with regard to my business.  I love when people are drawn in through my blog or etsy shop and contact me to create a special piece of nursery art.  I also love when I'm inspired and creating a special piece.  My kids often will watch me create and start to make their own masterpieces right beside me.  They are confident, proud and believe in themselves because they see that I do as well.
lovely
4. Do you have a goal of where you want your paper stork business to go? Or your blog to go? Is it just a hobby or a business opportunity?
I'm in the early stages and having so much fun.  I hope that both The Paper Stork and my blog, Barefoot by the Sea, can keep me busy, inspired and working.   I don't like to be bored!
a whale of a good time!
5. Anything fun you would like to share? Or your favorite motivational quote?
"If you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased" Katherine Hepburn

I AM a driven individual. . .always have been, but I had my kids young so I never was able to enter the workforce. BUT, I love my babies and they are what drive me. That, and the support of an uber awesome husband who truly delights in my happiness. Someday I may be able to enter the workforce, but as for now I am content with the here and now.

Thanks for sharing Jessica's info, Gina. . .she is pretty cool ;) (I love that Katherine Hepburn quote, hehe)

I get motivated by my kids and imagining their perspective of me in their heads. that's why I run almost everyday, we play ,we do things together, we laugh, we cook, we make. Women are amazing creatures. keep the girl power going.

I couldnt agree with you more on this post :) I am a full time elem school teacher, mom, domestic wife, blogger, crafter, diy-er, home renovator, and trying to open my etsy shop. Whew! Im tired just typing that! :0) My motivation comes from my smiling 2 year old, my supportive husband, and the students in my classroom. They are all the reasons I do what I do. Plus, I LOVE what I do. Everything in my list above, I L.O.V.E. I think that helps with motivation also.

Another great post! Looking fwd to tomorrow :)

What a fabulous feature! I'm always amazed at the industriousness of bloggers, and even when I feel like I couldn't possibly do another thing, I think of all these inspiring women and go practice for an hour!
