wedding planning...and so it begins!

Dave and I have been engaged since December 26th and ideally would like to get married in the Fall of 2011. With that said, being that it is now going to be a year out, I suppose we should start planning.

It isn't that I don't want to plan. I do. I am excited to get married. But the stress that comes with the planning is nerve-wracking. Perhaps, I am just stressed about the fact that it is August

{{After August, Dave and I are planning a weekend getaway to Willow Valley in Lancaster, PA, one of the possible locations for our upcoming nuptials.}}

There are many things that we have not decided on with the wedding planning as we are just in the beginning stages.

However, the following are things that I know I want:
Pink as one of my colors. I need another color to go with pink. {Think fall.}
french, country, classic, charm
I love flowers. I would like to have peonies but I do not think they are in bloom in the fall??
I would love to be as crafty and hand make as many items as possible. I have plenty of time until the wedding and am eager to get started. However, I am not sure what to start on? Where is a good place to start? Any wedding planners out there?
I do not want a big wedding. I hate attention and really feel uncomfortable when the attention is on me for an extended period of time. I would love a small, intimate, wedding of less than 100 although as Dave informed me kindly, with a large family like mine, this is probably unlikely.
I want our monogram as many places as tastefully and not over the top as possible. Our last name would start with a P and this is the only P photo I could find. I, however, am not a fan of this design nor would I spend my money on a P on the dance floor. I just don't have the luxury of having that kind of budget.

Any tips from those of you who have helped plan weddings or who are married yourself? I know you are probably going to tell me to get a wedding planner-as in the book-not necessarily a person-I can't afford the person. I am the planner.
 I really just want to start crafting stuff for my wedding.

How very exciting for you, Gina! My sister is getting married this October, and I've been helping her as much as possible from thousands of miles away. Jim and I are celebrating 11 years this Saturday, so I don't remember planning it at all, haha ;)

A DIY wedding with taste and class is VERY doable! Start with your colors, get your monogram in order, and everything else decor-wise will fall into place.

Wait, this fall? Or next fall? Either way, you have a lot to do! :) I would start with colors. A brown and pink look is great for fall, as is pink with navy. (Secretly, I would LOVE to be a wedding planner!) After you get your colors, get a monogram drawn up, and you will be on your way! And start shopping for decor things once they go on clearance after this year to save some money!

Pink and brown?

So exciting! Alan and I married in Feb. so we used pink and red with ivory mix. It was gorgeous. I think for fall you could use pink and brown. Or pink and champagne colors. Taupe is always nice. We had all fake flowers, too to cut costs. The most expensive thing was the dinner at our reception. I have lots of ideas. Let's talk!

Did you mean Fall 2011???

I like pink and a chocolate brown to tie in a fall color.

Peonies are out of season but if you want to pay an arm & a leg, I am sure you can have some shipped from somewhere!

I know a few people have said this but I love pink and brown. I'm excited to finally hear about your planning. We have made great progress over here on our super secret mission. You'd be shocked.

I'd want a small wedding too. But I'm thinking small for us would be 200. Not my idea of small.

I think pink and chocolate brown would be really pretty! Or pink and grey...or pink and black. I'm excited for you!

Oh planning for a wedding seems like so much fun!! I can see how it would definitely be insanely stressful, but so fun at the same time! I always thought I would just go the no-frills route, and just get it done at city hall (I'm not much of a romantic, huh?), but then I've seen so many blog posts lately about weddings and bachelorette parties and it all seems like so much fun! I might change my mind after all... :)

I have never even thought about planning a wedding. I have known that I will probably elope since I was 8. That does not mean that I do not love a good wedding. Yours sounds like it will be fantastic. I dig monogramming and peonies (I hope they bloom in fall!), and think pink is a great color. Perhaps paired with charcoal gray? Just a thought. Good luck, and keep posting ideas here so we can all weigh in.

Its one of your new penpals, Sabrina! I am currently planning my wedding for next summer. I did not buy a wedding planner book until I found one at Goodwill for $3 and told myself, "well... since its at Goodwill..." I did, however, sign up for All my planning stuff has been digital! I also have a blog for my wedding.

I'll have to fill you in on some more of the details in my letters!

Pink and chocolate brown is so gorgeous; I'm also a big fan of pink with gold, which would be a lovely fall palette as well. I'm sure that whatever you do will be lovely; your taste is so impeccable!

I just love, love pink and brown together too!

I was in a fall wedding a few years ago and we wore brown bridesmaid dresses - they looked really nice. We got them at David's Bridal. The bride did a whole fall harvest type of theme with fall colored leaves and colors. There is so much you can do with a fall wedding! Oh and I better be on that "short" list of invites! ;)

You can have "out of season" flowers shipped from Holland - that is where we used to get all our flowers for the resorts. But it will cost you!

Don't forget that Crystal is a wedding planner and she just had her own wedding this year, so I'm sure she is full of ideas.

You actually could get a vinyl monogram for your dance floor for about $30 - $40 . .. just the same wall vinyls you can get online. It's kind of a cool idea ;) I love monograms too!
